Tree Grafting Course

Course Description
Learn how to bench graft your own apple tree using the whip and tongue technique. Take home two apple trees that you will graft yourself, choosing from a wide selection of heritage varieties and dwarf to full size rootstocks. All materials and equipment will be provided and refreshments for a break.
Ruth O’Brien is a community market gardener and fruit grower of nearly 25 years, ten of which she has run her own fruit tree nursery on the Devon and Somerset border, grafting, growing and supplying the best of heritage varieties to the South West and nationwide.
3 hours of tuition at £125 per person, two people per session. Basic shelter provided but please wear warm outdoor clothing and suitable footwear for being outside. Courses will be held on the Mid-Devon/Somerset border approximately 5miles from Wellington.
There is also the optional extra to extend your course to a full day of six hours (including a light lunch) to learn how to plant fruit trees, fruit tree maintenance including basic pruning techniques, and advice on designing your garden or orchard for fruit growing.

The pace of the course was just right with lots of opportunity to practice the grafting techniques she demonstrated and now I have some trees that I grafted which I hope will in time provide me with delicious apples.
