Community Juicing Evenings
These events are run entirely by our very lovely (unpaid) volunteers who are there to help you. It’s run at our specifically designed pressing room, The Greenhouse, Golden Hill, Wiveliscombe, so it couldn’t be easier to turn up, have fun juicing and depart with gorgeous apple juice!
The purpose of these community juicing evenings is:
- learn how to press, bottle and pasteurise juice (if you’re new to this)
- to enable you to juice your apples when you don’t have enough apples to warrant hiring a kit for the day
It’s also a great way to meet members of our Brendon Orchard community and learn how you can get involved in our events and perhaps become a volunteer yourself. All in all, it’s fantastic value for you (only £5 membership for the year, plus cost price bottles (if you need them) and lids.
Sessions are on Thursday evenings from September until the end of the season. There will be 4 slots from 6pm to 7pm, booked at quarter hour intervals.
Cider/Cider vinegar? If you are wanting to make juice for cider or cider vinegar, please book a late slot on the session and email our community juicing co-ordinator to let us know, as we can fit more slots in!
Apple juice: If you’re making apple juice, be aware that the pasteurising process does take some time, so you’ll need to wait (maybe go for a walk/visit the pub/help clear up) till around 8pm or 8.30pm for the juice to be ready.

- Bring too many apples (no more than 50kg)
- Arrive without booking
- Bring rotten or heavily bruised fruit
- Forget to attend (your slot can be offered to someone else if you are unable to attend)
- Worry if you're short of apples - you can collaborate with others to ensure the press is filled
Please check sessions below and complete the full booking process. Once booked, you will receive one email which is a booking order confirmation and second email which provides additional information. Without these confirmations, you are not booked! Please contact our tech support if you’re having problems. (Ensure you have cookies enabled)
We do sell new bottles – so you don’t need to arrive with any. However, if you’re bringing your own bottles, please make sure they’re clean. (As a guide for the number of bottles you need; about 50% of the fruit is actually juice!) – for each 40 litre pressing you can get around 20 litres of juice which will fill around 26-28 750ml bottles. Check below for a visual guide to how many apples are used for one pressing.
If you have more than 50 kilos of apples (approximately 2 x medium trugs) we recommend that you:
- consider sharing a kit hire with others and having a fun day in your own or a friends garden. Join our Facebook group if you would like to find others in your neighbourhood to share a hire with.
- Let us handle the work and use our Juice for You service
Please note:
When you book a slot you will receive a booking order email which will serve as your booking confirmation. You may be asked to show a copy of this when you attend.
Guidance on how many apples to bring:
All 3 images of whole apples show the maximum number of apples you should bring to a community juicing session, enough to fill one 40 litre press.
The whole apples shown above, produced the juice shown in the bucket under the press – nearly 23 litres in this instance.
You can expect an average of 20 litres per pressing which is equal to around 26 750ml bottles of juice.
